Properties & Materials

For effective grounding, large-area skin contact and low contact impedance are crucial. Common designs utilize conductive contact surfaces, often silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) for adhesive electrodes, as well as band solutions made of copper or conductive silicone. Band grounding is used as circumferential bands (e.g., 25 to 70 cm) and can be applied to extremities in a stable position. Adhesive grounding electrodes are available as disposable components and support reproducible recording conditions in combination with suitable contact media (gel or paste) and proper skin preparation to reduce contact resistance.
